Story

Highveld Coffee Roasters was founded on a simple belief: Africa produces the world's most exciting coffees, yet most of it leaves the continent as green beans, roasted elsewhere, and sold back to us at premium prices. We're changing that. Founder Sipho Ndaba grew up on a small coffee farm in Limpopo—one of South Africa's emerging coffee regions—before training as a roaster in Addis Ababa and Portland. In 2019, he returned home to Cape Town with a mission: source exceptional lots directly from African farmers and roast them here, keeping more value on the continent. Today, we work with 23 farms and cooperatives across Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, and yes, South Africa. Every coffee comes with full traceability—the farm, the farmer, the processing method, the altitude. We roast in small 15kg batches at our Woodstock roastery, profiling each origin to reveal its unique character. Our coffees have won three Golden Bean Africa medals and supply 40+ specialty cafés across the Western Cape. This is African coffee, roasted by Africans, for everyone who cares about where their cup comes from.
